On May 13, Stevie Wonder turns 70 years of age. He was only 12 when he released his first singles. In 1963, 13-year old Little Stevie reached #1 for the first time. Over the decades, his vision and creativity has earned him a reputation of genius. As the world marks his 70th birthday, here are 100 highlights from his remarkable catalogue

UPTIGHT
(EVERYTHING’S ALRIGHT)
1965
After reaching #1 with “Fingertips” in 1963, Stevie’s follow-up singles barely bothered the US Top 40. Sylvia Moy asked the young artist if he had any song ideas. Stevie revealed the basic skeleton of a composition: “everything is alright, uptight”. Moy fleshed out the lyrics while Stevie and Hank Cosby developed the music. The single not only returned Stevie to Pop Top 10, but became his second R&B Chart #1. The title track from the ‘Up-Tight’ album also became Stevie’s first chart entry in the UK, climbing all the way to #14.
