SUPERWOMAN
(WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I NEEDED YOU)
1972
On the ‘Music Of My Mind’ album, Stevie revealed his maturity and new attitude to musical projects. This was most evident on the epic track “Superwoman”. As his marriage to Syreeta Wright was ending, the track's 2 distinct parts chronicle the fate of a relationship. Initially, the singer supports his partner’s ambitions. As the song progresses, the point arrives where he needs his partner; only to discover she is gone. The fact that Stevie could compose and produce such a moving track so early in his adulthood augured well for his next LP releases.
