Marvin Gaye

Marvin Gaye’s determined efforts to reflect the times was met with strong opposition from the head of Motown Records. Berry Gordy Jr. was convinced that his major star’s new musical direction would be a misguided shift. Gaye persisted. Fortunately, Gordy relented and the ‘What’s Going On’ album was finally issued. Its title track is still as relevant today as it was back in 1971.
