CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

(MID-WEEK BONUS) #731-727
#731 YOU ARE EVERYTHING Marvin Gaye & Diana Ross
The opening track on the 'Diana & Marvin' album finds 2 of Motown's most essential voices together. Ross & Gaye were at the top of their game, having emerged with significant profiles in the new decade. Ross had left The Supremes and seen her solo career blossom and had gained respect for her acting ability. Gaye had just taken on social commentary with his landmark 'What's Going On' LP.
"You Are Everything" is a stunning duet by 2 artists with a genuine fondness for each other. The song was composed by Thom Bell and Linda Creed. Originally recorded by the Stylistics, it reached the Top 10 in the USA in 1971. Gaye & Ross' cover was recorded 2 years later at Motown's studios in Hollywood.  The new version was produced by Hal Davis.

#730 PENNY LANE The Beatles
In 1967, The Beatles unleashed a worldwide hit song entitled "Penny Lane". Credited to John Lennon & Paul McCartney, the single features the latter on lead vocals, reminiscing about a location in Liverpool. George Martin produced the recording. The track features interesting sound effects and a piccolo trumpet. While the song peaked at #2 in the UK, it reached the top in America, Canada and Australia.

#729 FEELS LIKE I'M IN LOVE Kelly Marie
Ray Dorset, the writer of "Feels Like I'm In Love", was a major Elvis Presley fan. He actually penned the song in the hope that his idol would one day record it. Unfortunately, Presley died just before he could submit it to the singer. Around 2 years later, Dorset heard Scot Kelly Marie singing and offered her his song. It became a dance hit upon its release in 1979. Peter Yellowstone produced the track.
Marie was born Jacqueline McKinnon. She had enjoyed international success with "Make Love To Me" in the late 1970s. "Feels Like I'm In Love" reached #1 in Britain in 1980. Both singles cracked the Top 10 in Australia.
Dorset had also enjoyed success at the top, as a member of Mungo Jerry. "In the Summertime" was written by him and features his lead vocals on the British & Australian #1 single.

#728 MONDAY, MONDAY The Mamas & The Papas
John Phillips penned "Monday, Monday" for his group The Mamas and The Papas. When he brought the song to the other 3 members, they weren't enthused. Producer Lou Adler was not a fan of it either. Phillips insisted and the song was recorded. Adler produced it. The single became the group's only American #1.

#727 SARA Fleetwood Mac
Stevie Nicks penned the ballad "Sara", arguably the star attraction on Fleetwood Mac's 'Tusk' LP. Released in 1979, it features group members Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie with her on background vocals. The song begins with just Nicks on lead, the background vocals emerge softly until they dominate song's end. The group (Buckingham in particular) produced this track with Richard Dashut and Ken Caillat. "Sara" was issued as a single, reaching the Top 10 in America.
