#698 WHY ME? Irene Cara
Irene Cara achieved success via movie songs. Her first 2 Top 40 hits were from the film 'Fame'. Its title track reached #4 in her homeland USA in 1980. The box office hit 'Flashdance' provided the singer from the Bronx with her worldwide #1 "Flashdance... What a Feelin'" 3 years later.
Cara released her 'What a Feelin'' album to capitalize on her biggest hit. Giorgio Moroder produced the album which spawned 5 chart singles; "Why Me?" being 1 of them. Respected session guitarist Richie Zito plays on the track. Joe Esposito contributes background vocals. He was a member of Brooklyn Dreams, the group that is featured on Donna Summer's hit "Heaven Knows". Esposito also recorded "Lady, Lady, Lady" for the 'Flashdance' soundtrack. Cara co-wrote the song with Keith Forsey and Moroder. Both had also previously collaborated with Summer.
