In 1993, the Pet Shop Boys released "Can You Forgive Her?", the first single to emerge from their best album, 'Very'. It sounds innocently upbeat, but beneath its bouncy beats lie some dark and biting lyrics. The song deals with a man who is gay but in the closet. His female partner is well aware of his true sexuality and is threatening to reveal his secret to the public. Both members of the duo- Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe- wrote the song. They co-produced the track with Stephen Hague. The song reached #1 on the US Dance Chart and made the Top 20 in Australia, Europe and their native UK.
