Californian R&B group Tony, Toni, Tone' formed in 1987, consisting of 2 brothers- Dwayne and Raphael Wiggins- and their cousin Timothy Christian. "If I Had No Loot" - their 7th US chart entry - became their biggest hit. Written by Raphael with Juan Bautista and Will Harris, the track was produced by the 3 pivotal members. The new-jack swing song warns about the fickle nature of some 'fair weather' friends. The track contains 3 samples from: KRS-1's "The 'P' Is Free", Ice Cube's "The Wrong Nigga To Fuck Wit" and Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood". 
The single was included on their 'Sons of Soul' album, going on sale in 1993. "If I Had No Loot" peaked at #7 in the US and #8 in New Zealand. On the Australian chart, the single climbed as high as #12. The group's last chart hit was "Thinking of You" in 1997. 
Along with his work with this trio, Raphael works as a solo recording artist under the name Raphael Saadiq. In 2000, he also scored success as a member of another R&B trio, Lucy Pearl. Furthermore, he has produced recordings by Macy Gray and D'Angelo.
