#697 MISTY BLUE Dorothy Moore
Dorothy Moore recorded a stellar ballad that became a soul staple in the 1970s. She had been the lead singer of The Poppies while still attending high school. By 1967, Moore had decided to pursue a solo career. It would be a long wait for the vocalist, but she finally tasted Top 40 success with a remake of a 1966 country hit by Wilma Burgess, entitled "Misty Blue".
Bob Montgomery wrote the song. Moore adopted an R&B approach for her interpretation. Her remake became the best selling version of "Misty Blue". It was the title track from her album released in 1976. The single peaked at #3 on the US Hot 100. Moore charted with 2 other singles but has not returned to the charts since 1977. She is still recording.
