#647 DON'T TELL ME THE TIME Martha Davis
The Motels were 1 of the most interesting rock bands of the 1980s. A large component of their success was lead singer Martha Davis. Her punk attitude, good looks and engaging vocal ability drew male fans and, with great pop/ rock songs, their string of hit singles was well earned.
Most members had quit The Motels by early 1987, so Davis launched a solo career. "Don't Tell Me the Time" was her only hit as a soloist. The song was penned by Davis for her 'Policy' LP. The album marked her solo debut and reached record shops later the same year.
The single failed to crack the Top 40 in her home country, but did peak at #8 in Australia. Davis then faced health concerns which impeded her solo career's launch. She overcame her cancer and still tours around the world to this day, (billed as The Motels featuring Martha Davis). Recordings have become scarcer.
