Billy Joel's breakthrough hit was "Piano Man", the title song he penned for his 1973 album, inspired by his stint as a lounge singer.

Nina Simone was so much more than just a jazz artiste. She co-wrote the civil rights anthem "To Be Young, Gifted And Black" with Weldon Irvine. Its release, in 1969, was pertinent for the times.

#1393 YESTERDAY The Beatles
"Yesterday" is actually a solo recording by Paul McCartney, its composer. In 1965, it was included on The Beatles' 'Help!' LP. It has since become the most covered Beatles song.
