CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#59 (UNTIL) YOUR LOVE BROKE THROUGH
MARCIA HINES
(1976)
Writers: Keith Green, Randy Stonehill & Todd Fishkind
Marcia Hines' 2nd studio album 'Shining' was unleashed in 1976. The 2nd second single from the LP was the gospel ballad "(Until) Your Love Broke Through", written by Christian rock songwriters. Hines' interpretation infuses a soulful quality that makes the song equally approachable as a religious song about God or a loved one. It's Hines at her spiritual best. The album peaked at #3 in Australia, where the single also cracked the Top 40. Again, Robie G. Porter produced.
After a string of hits in the 1970s, the Boston born singer left Wizard Records. Her next major hit, "Your Love Still Brings Me To My Knees" in 1981, was on the Midnight label (through WEA). Her main focus for the remainder of the 1980s was raising daughter Deni.
1994 saw the first new studio album from Hines in over a decade, 'Right Here And Now'. Longtime fans were excited to see the entertainer back with new material. A cover of Irene Cara's "What A Feeling" (aka "Flashdance... What A Feeling") and "Time of our Lives" proved Hines' comeback would endure. This was assured with the premiere of TV talent show "Australian Idol" in 2003. Suddenly, a new generation was introduced to the Australian music legend, who appeared weekly on the judging panel. She remained on the show until its demise in 2009.
Hines paid tribute to the disco genre on 'Disctheque', her 2005 release. On the new album, she covered hit songs such as "Last Dance" (originally by her sister's childhood friend- and fellow Bostonian- Donna Summer), "Disco Inferno" and "You Should Be Dancing".
In 2010, Hines released an album where she covered the entire Carole King LP 'Tapestry'. Her most recent release is 'Amazing'. Issued in 2014, it features a duet with Russell Crowe entitled "Remedy". Hines co-wrote all of the album's songs with Tom Diesel and Ron E. Jones. A standout track is the topical and poignant "Silent Tears".
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
