CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#72 I CLOSE MY EYES AND COUNT TO TEN
DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
(1968)
Writer: Clive Westlake

Dusty Springfield scored a British #4 hit single with "I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten" in 1968. The disc failed to chart in the USA. The fact that the single didn't fare well in many other territories is disappointing given the dramatic delivery from Springfield. The musical arrangement is 1 of the best of that era.
Years later, the Pet Shop Boys led to a resurgence of interest in the blue -eyed soul singer when they collaborated on "What Have I Done To Deserve This". In 1995, Springfield was busy recording when she discovered she had breast cancer. After radiation therapy, she was considered to be in remission but cancer returned the following year. On 2 March 1999, Springfield, 1 of the best British vocalists of all-time, succumbed to the illness. She was aged 59.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
