CARLY
SIMON
During the early 70s, Carly Simon was one of the leading female singer/songwriters. The New Yorker was born in 1945 and first charted as a member of a duo with her sister Lucy. The Simon Sisters reached #73 in 1964 with "Winkin', Blinkin' And Nod". Her solo debut took place in 1971 with the Top 10 hit "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" lifted off her self-titled album. Simon was awarded the Best New Artist Grammy.
1972 saw the release of 'No Secrets' which topped the US album chart and spawned the American, Canadian and Australian #1 single "You're So Vain". That same year she married fellow singer/ songwriter James Taylor. The 2 enjoyed a Top 10 hit with a remake of "Mockingbird" in 1974.
Simon sang "Nobody Does It Better" for the James Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' in 1977. A series of interesting singles followed, including: "Vengeance" (1979), "Jesse" (1980) and "Why" (1982). The latter was written and produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of Chic fame.
She released the song "Coming Around Again" in 1986 from the 'Heartburn' film soundtrack. She wrote and performed "Let The River Run" which won the Best Original Song Academy Award in 1988 for 'Working Girl'.
Simon continues performing and recording. In 2015, she wrote her autobiography "Songs From The Trees: A Memoir". Her hit "You're So Vain" was reprised on the 2001 Janet Jackson hit "Son Of A Gun (I Bet You Think This Song Is About You)".
