200 SONGS
WITH THE
BEST LYRICS
A countdown of the 200 songs possessing the best
lyrics of all-time.
#71
IF I WERE A BOY
“…But you’re just a boy...”
2008 saw Beyoncé unleash her 'I Am... Sasha Fierce' album. The disc contained the track "If I Were A Boy". It topped the US R&B Chart and reached #3 on the Pop listing. The single did the same in Britain. It also made #1 in Europe, Brazil and Israel.
The song's verses approach masculinity from a woman's perspective. Beyoncé sings about how she would behave if she had been born a male. The lyrics ponder if there would be any difference. How would the "male" her treat women?
As the song nears its end, the focus shifts from a woman to the man that has broken her heart. The lyrics suggest that the man in question will not understand because of his gender.
As
new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be added to a
spotify playlist. Find it and the other Caffé Latté playlists at:
