BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG…
These songs are well known
but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with
prior versions of the same song.
Mr. Tambourine Man
The Byrds reached #1 in mid-1965 with the folk-rock classic "Mr. Tambourine Man". Its crossover success helped add more acclaim in its writer Bob Dylan's direction. The song became the title track of The Byrds' debut album.
Dylan's original version reached the public arena just 3 months prior. It was included on his 'Bringing It All Back Home' album. No doubt, the success of The Byrds' remake pushed sales for his album. The LP became Dylan's 1st to crack the US Top 10 and spawned the singer/ songwriter's 1st Top 40 single.
