Prince established himself as a dominant force in pop music ushering in the sounds of Minneapolis. Shiela E and Chaka Khan both scored success with Prince songs. Tina Turner enjoyed even bigger hits in her own right after leaving Ike Turner. Prog rock band Yes reached #1 for the first time. Big albums were unleashed by Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Boy George was followed by other "gender benders" such as Marilyn and Dead Or Alive's Pete Burns.
