The definitive list of 200 songs from the movies, recorded by by rock & pop acts since the start of the Rock Era in 1955.
To be eligible, the songs need to have been first heard in association with a film from the last 60 years (although some exceptions do exist where the song gained a higher profile after its use in a motion picture)- so no songs from “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les Miserables” or “The Sound Of Music” and other films that first started out as stage musicals.

Diana Ross, in her 2nd film, played fashion designer Tracy Chambers. The Motown motion picture cast her opposite Billy Dee Williams, her co-star in 'Lady Sings the Blues', again. That film debut earned Ross an Oscar nomination for acting. 'Mahogany' gave the singer another solo chart-topping single and an Academy Award nomination in the Best Original Song category.

Cliff Richard

Cliff Richard was Britain's answer to Elvis Presley. 'The Young Ones' was a musical starring the superstar. In the US, the film was entitled 'It's Wonderful To Be Young'. The single topped the charts in the UK and other countries.

 The 4th Bond film had a title song in the tradition of the preceding 'Goldfinger'. Few male vocalists have infused as much drama and tension into a 007 number as Tom Jones accomplishes here.

(‘Batman Forever’- 1995)
 Theatrical release poster featuring Batman and various characters from the film.
Val Kilmer took on the role of Gotham City's superhero, replacing Michael Keaton in 'Batman Forever'. U2 reached #1 in Australia and Canada with "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me". The single peaked at #2 in Britain.

Barbra Streisand

 The title song from the box office hit film 'The Main Event' saw Barbra Streisand tackle the disco genre. The actress was re-united with previous co-star Ryan O'Neal in this comedy. The single made the US Pop, Adult Contemporary and Disco charts in 1979-80.

ST. ELMO'S FIRE (MAN IN MOTION)

(‘St. Elmo's Fire’- 1985)

Joel Schumacher directed the so-called "Brat Pack" actors in the coming of age film 'St. Elmo's Fire'. The cast included Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore and Judd Nelson. John Parr recorded the powerful title song which reached #1 in America.

Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories
(‘Reality Bites’- 1994)
 A man in a blue suit, a short-haired girl in a red dress, a young man in casually dressed. Graffiti on the wall behind them.
The romantic comedy drama 'Reality Bites' had a popular soundtrack album. The film made "Stay" a #1 hit for newcomer Lisa Loeb.

David Bowie wrote lyrics to music composed by Giorgio Moroder for the erotic thriller movie 'Cat People'. It was loosely based on the 1942 original screenplay.

Beyoncé
(‘Dreamgirls’- 2006)
 The silhouettes of three women on a pink background.
While most of the songs featured in the film version of 'Dreamgirls' were from the stage musical, "Listen" was a new number delivered by lead actress Beyoncé. It earned an Oscar nomination.
