Most of the recent Eurovision winners
have been performed in English, but there have been some significant
exceptions. The last 5 victorious entries with no English lyrics are:
2017 Portuguese
2007 Serbian
1998 Hebrew
1995 Norwegian
1991 Swedish
From 1978-98, countries were only
permitted to enter songs performed in their official national language. The
rule was changed as it favoured nations that could compete in English, which
explains the record-breaking streak of Irish wins during this period.
