ALL THE EUROVISION COUNTRIES: (38). More: tomorrow.

Caffè Lattè looks back on:

ALL THE

EUROVISION

COUNTRIES

The Eurovision Song Contest was first held in 1956. Back then, only 7 countries participated. In the decades since, dozens of other nations have joined the ESC family. As Europe changed, countries faded into history as new countries and new names emerged. Eurovision itself has expanded beyond the European continent; to Africa, the Middle East and the Southern Hemisphere.

Our spotlight looks back on every country that has competed – in chronological order.

2003

The Eurovision Song Contest continued evolving. 2003 marked the last time that the Contest would be held on just one night. It was therefore the final year of the relegation system. This was replaced by a semi-final heat in 2004. A new record of 26 countries converged on Riga in Latvia for the Contest. Among this group was a new addition to the Eurovision family.

XXXVIII

UKRAINE

Since debuting in 2003, the Ukraine has gone on to be one of the most successful participants at Eurovision, having secured 3 victories. The first win was in the following year. Ruslana stormed to victory in 2004 with the thrilling “Wild Dances”. Jamala took out the second Ukrainian win in 2016 with “1944”. Following the Russian invasion of the Ukraine, the country secured its third victory in 2022 with “Stefania” performed by the Kalush Orchestra.

As the 2024 Contest draws closer, the Ukrainian entry “Teresa & Maria” is one of the favourites. It will be performed by Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil. The song is competing in Semi-Final One.
