ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME 2024 NOMINATED INDUCTEES. Continues tomorrow.

Caffè Lattè examines this year’s 15 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame contenders:

THE CLASS OF

2024

We argue the case for each of 2024’s 15 nominees for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame…

- OASIS -

Inducting Oasis would do much in redressing the imbalance within the Hall Of Fame. Since its inception, it has been skewed in favour of American musicians. Oasis spearheaded the Britpop era of the 1990s. Its sound was rooted in The Beatles, but was injected with a fresh context. Among its standout recordings are the album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ and the majestic single “Wonderwall”.

WHO IS STILL NOT IN THE HALL OF FAME?*

*Excludes acts nominated for induction in 2024.

Despite being eligible, the following acts are 60 glaring omissions that are yet to be inducted:

BLUR

If a case can be made for Oasis, then the same must apply to Blur. Both groups competed during the heyday of Britpop in the 1990s. Led by Damon Albarn, Blur stormed the UK chart with strong tracks that included “Parklife”, “Song 2”, “Country House” and “Girls & Boys”.

SLADE

Hard rock fused with the bombast of glam with a healthy sprinkling of glitter. Few bands could master this balance as effectively as Slade. There was no gender ambiguity, thanks to a catalogue that rocked the charts. Among the highlight hits are “Cum On Feel The Noize”, “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” and “Run, Runaway”. Slade’s absence in the Hall Of Fame requires urgent correction.

MARY WELLS

Before The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5 broke through, Mary Wells was one of the hottest acts on the Motown roster. She was a consistent charter, thanks to singles such as “My Guy”, “You Beat Me To The Punch” and “Two Lovers”.

GLEN CAMPBELL

He proved himself as an adept session guitarist before launching a successful recording career in his own right. Glen Campbell carved out his own niche of country/ pop crossover material that boasted the chart hits “Southern Nights”, “Gentle On My Mind”, “Rhinestone Cowboy”, “Galveston” and “Wichita Lineman”.
