100 SONGS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
1967
💥35 A Day In The Life
The Beatles
On May 26, 1967, The Beatles released their legendary album ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’. Everything about the disc was innovative: the tracks, the concept and the cover. Of its 13 songs, the highlight is closing track “A Day In The Life”. The Beatles had already been trailblazers for years, on songs such as “Eleanor Rigby”, “Rain” and “I Am The Walrus”. The group went even further with this monumental recording. For “A Day In The Life”, John Lennon drew inspiration from newspapers for its first verses. Paul McCartney came up with another segment. The 2 separate parts were combined to great effect in the studio. There’s Lennon going psychedelic, announcing he’d “love to turn you on”. Again, George Martin excelled himself, applying his considerable skill as producer to create one of the standouts in The Beatles’ canon. At its thrilling conclusion, is an orchestral crescendo that ends with one of the most memorable final notes in rock music.
