100 SONGS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
1967
💥36 Sunshine Of Your Love
Cream
In a decade dominated by classic rock groups such as The Beatles, The Who and The Rolling Stones, one emerged that can rightly be declared the first ‘supergroup’. The trio consisted of guitarist Eric Clapton, drummer Ginger Baker and lead vocalist/ bassist Jack Bruce. “Sunshine Of Your Love” was a hybrid of styles, ranging from blues, psychedelia and hard rock, wrapped in a pop structure. Cream embodied the “power trio”. Although the band only existed for a brief time, its members continued to have a significant impact on rock music. Cream itself would serve other classic tracks that included “Strange Brew”, “Badge” and “White Room”. Clapton had already attracted adulation for his guitar skills as a member of The Yardbirds and John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and would add to his catalogue with songs such as “Layla” (as a member of Derek & The Dominos) and "Tears In Heaven". He and Baker would reunite soon after Cream’s split as members of Blind Faith.
