TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#702 NEW KID IN TOWN The Eagles
The Eagles packed 'Hotel California' with some amazing songs. One of the most insightful is "New Kid In Town". The band plays with the theme that people are fickle. At the time this was recorded, the group was at its peak in popularity. But the members were well aware that music fans switch allegiances swiftly when the latest new thing arrives. The lyrics extend that theme to romance and relationships.
J.D. Souther had known Eagles member Glenn Frey prior to the formation of The Eagles. He contributed to writing some hits for the group, including "The Best of my Love", "The Sad Cafe", "Victim of Love" and "Heartache Tonight". He came up with the idea for "New Kid in Town". Group members Don Henley and Frey helped complete the track. It was produced by Bill Szymczyk.
Released as a single in 1976, it became the group's 2nd of 3 #1 Eagles chart topping songs co-written with Souther in the USA.
