CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

(MID-WEEK BONUS) #692-688
#692 VINCERO [Carwash Remix] Fredrik Kempe
Swedish singer/songwriter Fredrik Kempe applied his experience performing pop and opera to create the "popera" hit song "Vincero". The dance song features lyrics from "Nessun Dorma". The verses were written by Kempe. The single was released in 2002 and was featured on his 'Songs For Your Broken Heart' album. On the Swedish chart, it peaked at #4.
Kempe has written a number of contenders for the Eurovision Song Contest, and not only for his homeland. In 2008, Charlotte Perrelli sang a song he co-wrote entitled "Hero". The following year's Swedish entry was another Kempe attempt at "popera", a song named "La Voix" performed by Malena Ernman. In 2010, he co-wrote the Norwegian entry "My Heart is Yours", as sung by Didrik Solli-Tangen. The following year, his composition "Popular" came third for Swedish entry Eric Saade. In 2014, no less than 4 songs co-/ written by Kempe will compete in the Swedish selections, Melodifestivalen 2014 (including a song by Alcazar).

#691 EASY The Commodores
Lionel Richie wrote "Easy" and, at the time, it became The Commodores' biggest US hit. On the Pop chart there, it climbed to #4 and #1 R&B. James Anthony Carmichael produced the recording with the group. This was the first single lifted from the band's self-titled album, issued in 1977. It also reached the Top 10 in Britain. The song combines elements of country with soul and pop music. It has been covered by various country artists and most famously by Faith No More. While the original failed to crack the Australian Top 40, the latter's remake did reach #1 in 1992.

#690 NOT ALONE ANYMORE The Traveling Wilburys
The idea behind The Traveling Wilburys' formation sprang up while George Harrison was recording a flip side for a single lifted off his 'Cloud Nine' LP. He gathered up stellar guests: Jeff Lynne from ELO, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison. The result was considered too good to waste on a B-side. They completed an album, sharing songwriting and singing duties. One highlight of this 1988 project was "Not Alone Anymore". The song features prominently the brilliant vocals of Orbison. Sadly, only 3 members are still living today: Petty, Lynne and Dylan. The songs on the LP are credited to all 5 members.

#689 BOOTYLICIOUS Destiny's Child
Songwriters Robert Fusari and Falonte Moore were creating music when 1 of them suggested sampling the Survivor hit "Eye of the Tiger". The former didn't have that track there, but he did have another song he thought would work just as well: "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks. They completed the music track. About 6 months later, the song idea was sent to Beyonce. Her group Destiny's Child was working on a new album. Beyonce loved the track and it inspired her to write a song to empower women who had some extra weight. Knowles co-produced the recording with the 2 songwriters. In 2001, the single reached #1 in America. It made Top 10 in Europe, the UK, Canada and Australia. This was the 2nd single lifted from the group's 'Survivor' album.

#688 GIVE ME JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME Kylie Minogue
In 1991, Kylie Minogue covered an R&B song by Chairmen of the Board entitled "Give me Just a Little More Time". As the songwriting / production team of Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland was still involved in litigation with former label Motown, the trio adopted various pseudonyms. Thus, "Give Me Just..." is credited to Edythe Wayne and Ron Dunbar but it is now widely accepted that the writers and producers were, in fact, H/D/H. The song peaked at #3 on both sides of the Atlantic.
Minogue had found fame as a star on TV soap "Neighbours". The Australian performer launched a music career in the 1980s. By 1991, she had already placed 4 songs at #1 in the UK and 3 in her homeland. Her cover of "Give Me Just..." was included on the 'Let's Get To It' album. It was issued as a single in 1992. It peaked at #2 in Britain. Mike Stock and Paul Waterman produced the track.
