TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#395 YESTERDAY ONCE MORE The Carpenters
In the early years of the 1970s, rock 'n roll "oldies" were experiencing a revival. The Carpenters decided to capitalize and, after testing some such songs on concert audiences, incorporated some older tunes from the previous 2 decades on their 1973 album 'Now and Then'.
A medley of '50s and '60s songs was planned and Richard Carpenter penned a new composition with John Bettis to bookend it. Richard and his sister Karen Carpenter performed classics from the bygone era including "One Fine Day", "Our Day Will Come", "Da Doo Ron Ron", "The End of the World' and "Fun, Fun, Fun".
The 2 siblings produced "Yesterday Once More". The song echoes the spirit of those oldies, with references to lyrics such as "sha - la- la- la" and "shing-a- ling- a- ling". The single reached #1 on the US Adult Contemporary chart and the Canadian Top 40. On Billboard's Top 100, the single peaked at #2 as it also did in Britain. The disc also made the Top 10 in Japan and Australia.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
