BEFORE IT WAS A HIT LII: The Man Who Sold The World. Continues next week.
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

imageMany of us were first introduced to "The Man Who Sold The World" when Nirvana included it at the band's MTV Unplugged concert and subsequent 1994 album. 
The original was released by David Bowie in 1970-1. Penned by the singer, the single was the title track from 1 of his early album releases. 
Lulu peaked at #3 on the British chart with her rendition of the song in 1974. Bowie co-produced the female singer's version with Mark Ronson.
