#347 KISS ME Sixpence None The Richer
Taking their name from a story by C. S. Lewis ("Mere Christianity"), Sixpence None The Richer formed in Austin, Texas in 1993. Their initial breakthrough was in Christian music. Their 'The Fatherless and the Widow' album earned the group a Dove Award. Pop audiences became aware of the band in 1998 through the song "Kiss Me".
After signing with a new label, the band released a self-titled album in 1997. "Kiss Me" was issued in 1998 and charted on the US Pop Chart as a CD maxi-single. A week later, it had dropped off the Hot 100. It was resurrected after being used in the movie 'She's All That' and the TV series "Dawson's Creek". Second time around, the single enjoyed success, peaking at #2 in America, 4 in the UK and #1 in Australia and Canada.
The song was written by the group's guitarist and cellist Matt Slocum. John Mark Painter contributed the accordion that makes the chirpy upbeat song distinctive. Steve Taylor took care of production duties.
Follow-up "There She Goes" kept the momentum going. Subsequent releases included a remake of the Crowded House song "Don't Dream It's Over" in 2003. The following year, Sixpence None The Richer broke up, only to re-form 3 years later. Their most recent album release was 'Lost in Transition' in 2012.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
