#360 A SONG FOR YOU Whitney Houston
Many fine vocalists have recorded versions of Leon Russell's beautiful tribute "A Song For You". The composer recorded the original version of the ballad in 1970 for his self-titled album. Soon after, it was covered by an array of acts as diverse as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Carpenters, Christina Aguilera, Joe Cocker and Cher. Donny Hathaway's emotive reading is the definitive version of the song as a ballad and is just as worthy to be included here.
Whitney Houston transformed the song for her remake on the 2009 'I Look To You' album. Recorded in California, this interpretation begins with just the singer and gentle keyboards. Houston's vocals gradually build towards the chorus. Star Gate's production kicks in and turns the song into a dancey celebration.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
