CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#572 SHILO Neil Diamond
When Neil Diamond penned "Shilo", Bang- his label at the time- (Bert Berns specifically) felt the song would not work as a single. The singer/ songwriter had recorded it in New York in 1967 with Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich producing.
Tenderly crafted with introspective lyrics, his vocal delivery never sounds disingenuous. At the song's conclusion, when he calls out "Shilo", the emotion is heightened subtly. Berns' death released Diamond from his contract with Bang and he switched labels to Uni.
Once he scored major success with "Sweet Caroline", Bang finally decided to capitalize on Diamond's marketability by releasing the track as a single. In 1970, the 3-year old vocal enjoyed a chart run, peaking at #24 in 1970. It also charted in Germany and Australia.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
