CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#603 LIVING ON THE CEILING Blancmange
The Eighties attracted much derision at that decade's conclusion, but there were many examples of musical innovation. "Living on the Ceiling" is 1 such example. It is a dance record. It's typical 80s synth/ pop too. What sets this track apart is its use of Indian- Middle Eastern influences. You can hear a sitar and tabla featured throughout.
The electronic duo formed in Britain in 1979. "...Ceiling" remains their biggest hit. It was written by both members: Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe. It was included on their 1982 album 'Happy Families'. In Britain, the single peaked at #7. On the Australian chart, the disc reached #5. This was to be their sole Top 40 appearance as only "Waves" charted. With a debut in July, the follow-up climbed no higher than #99 in its 2-week run. In 1984, Blancmange recorded a cover of ABBA's "The Day Before You Came". The duo enjoyed more chart singles in the UK and also visited the American dance chart.
