CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#599 SUNDAY MORNING CALL Oasis
The influence of the Beatles on Oasis has been obvious since their debut release. Having formed in 1993, the rock group from Manchester spearheaded the renaissance of guitar pop and Brit-pop. By 1994 they had released 'Definitely Maybe', the UK's fastest selling debut album. With Noel Gallagher leading the band, Oasis were now on their way to worldwide success. The following year, Oasis released what would become 1 of Britain's all-time best selling albums- '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'. Despite their increased popularity, internal tension between the Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel frequently threatened the group's survival. Paul "Bonegead" Arthurs quit the band while they were recording 'Standing on the Shoulder of Giants'. This album was issued in 2000 and included the track "Sunday Morning Call", which was written by Noel.
Released as the 3rd single from the album, the song peaked at #4 in the UK and 7 in Canada. It also charted in Ireland and Japan. By now, Gem Archer had replaced Arthurs. Continued tension within the band eventually led to Noel quitting in 2009. Liam and the remaining members adopted new monicker Beady Eye. They have released 2 albums, 'BE" -the most recent- was issued in 2013. Noel has released solo material.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
To mark the occasion of reaching the halfway mark for this special countdown, a new song will be added on the hour all day today (in place of this week's Mid Week Bonus).
