CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#307 I FEEL FOR YOU Chaka Khan
A song from Prince's eponymously titled 2nd album became a massive Pop/ R&B smash for Chaka Khan. Prince's version was included on his 1979 album. The Pointer Sisters recorded a cover of it in 1982 for the 'So Excited' LP. Prince's composition was then selected as the title track for Khan's 1984 album release.
With her label demanding a more contemporary musical direction from the singer, she and producer Arif Mardin began work on material to record. For "I Feel...", Mardin enlisted Stevie Wonder to play harmonica and Melle Mel to rap on the remake. Prince was to guest on guitar, but scheduling problems prevented this from taking place. The track was recorded on the same day as Marvin Gaye's funeral, which Wonder had attended. While Khan originally disliked the rap intro, Mardin assured her that it would work and it stayed on the track.
"I Feel..." reached #1 on the UK Top 40 and made the top on the US R&B Chart. On Billboard's Hot 100, the single peaked at #3. In Australia, the disc climbed to #4. Of interest is that Rebbie Jackson also recorded a cover of the song in 1984 for her 'Centipede' album. Khan's interpretation is far superior.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with an expanded edition coming soon!
