CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1500 CHOICE TRACKS

#291SOMEDAY WE'LL BE TOGETHER Diana Ross & The Supremes
Although "Someday We'll Be Together" is credited to The Supremes, the only member of the girl group featured on the track is in fact Diana Ross. Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong were never invited to the recording session. It was to be the trio's final single together and became the last #1 of the 1960s on the American charts.
The song had been written many years earlier during lean times by Jackey Beavers and Johnny Bristol with Harvey Fuqua. The latter ran a small label in Detroit which was later brought in under the Motown umbrella. Beavers and Bristol recorded the original version of "Someday..." in 1961. While Bristol's profile at the Motown label grew, he decided to re-record the song. When Berry Gordy Jr heard the new version, he knew it would be perfect for The Supremes. In the studio, Ross recorded her cover version with Maxine and Julia Waters on background vocals. Bristol produced the cut. Dissatisfied with Ross' lead vocal, Bristol used another booth to accompany the singer. His is the male vocal featured on the final cut. "Someday..." was included on the trio's 'The Cream of the Crop' album.
Unleashed in 1969, the Supremes' final single with Ross reached #1 on the US R&B Charts. In Britain, "Someday..." peaked at #13. Shortly after its release, Motown revealed that Ross was leaving the group to launch a solo career. Jean Terrell was announced as her replacement. Ross went on to great success as a soloist.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new instalments are added each day (every 12 hours) with 1 of the remaining 300 songs as well as moving down from #1201 to 1500, with 5 of those songs added daily.
