CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1500 CHOICE TRACKS

#288 I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY (WHO LOVES ME) Whitney Houston
The lead single from Whitney Houston's 2nd album was "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". The song was written by a couple consisting of performers George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam. They first worked together at a Boeing family wedding. They worked together in the group Sparrow before forming the duo Boy Meets Girl. The couple married in 1988, the same year they reached #5 in America with "Waiting for a Star to Fall".
By the time Narada Michael Walden was in the studio producing Houston on "I Wanna Dance...", Merrill and Rubicam had already written a worldwide #1 for the singer. "How Will I Know" made #1 in 1985. The producer played drums on the new track while other session musicians included Preston Glass, Walter Afanassief and Randy Jackson.
"I Wanna Dance..." reached #1 in America on the Pop, Dance and Adult Contemporary charts in 1987. The disc also made #1 in Britain, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada.Walden had altered the sound of the song from the couple's original demo, but his instincts proved accurate. The single became 1 of Houston's most famous recordings.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new instalments are added each day (every 12 hours) with 1 of the remaining 300 songs as well as moving down from #1201 to 1500, with 5 of those songs added daily.
