The protagonist in Joe Jackson's "A Slow Song" is pleading for a break from the overbearing cacophony being played by a DJ at a venue. He is there with his partner and they wish to unwind with a slower paced piece of music after a demanding day at work.
Jackson wrote the slow song for his 1982 album 'Night And Day'. It became the singer / songwriter's best seller on the strength of this track and the singles "Real Men" and "Steppin Out".
