The sweet "Come Down In Time" was included on Elton John's 1970 album 'Tumbleweed Connection'. It is a song about unrequited love.
Bernie Taupin's lyrics set the scene. Night has fallen. Outside, nightjar birds are singing. The verses continue, now referring to the woman the protagonist is keen for. He feels encouraged to go to her but fears she will not show. By the song's end, there is a line about the women that hold you tight, while others leave you waiting in vain under the stars.
Each word appears to have been thoughtfully selected by Taupin to capture the song's sad mood. The lyrics flow as a result of his delicate songwriting.
