John Fogerty was the pivotal member of Creedence Clearwater Revival. He was the American group's lead singer and songwriter. "Fortunate Son" was released as a single in 1969 as well as being included on CCR's 'Willy And The Poor Boys' album.
His lyrics are scornful of those who peddle patriotism while using privilege to avoid putting themselves or family members in harm's way. Politicians, for example, were content to send others' sons to the war in Vietnam, but used their position to protect their own. Fogerty was in the army reserve, so he was qualified to speak out.
