#109
BABY CAN I HOLD YOU
“…Maybe if I told you
the right words, ooh,
at the right time,
you’d be mine...
Tracy Chapman tackled some serious subjects on her self-titled debut album. The 1988 LP established her as a leading contemporary singer / songwriter. "Baby Can I Hold You" is a tender reprieve from the album's darker themes.
The track reminds us how important it is to say to those we care about words such as "sorry", "forgive me" or "I love you".  As the song progresses, we learn that the protagonist has neglected to utter those words and is now without the one she is missing.
As new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be added to a spotify playlist. Find it and the other Caffé Latté playlists at:
