THE 100 BEST SONGS

WRITTEN BY THE

BEE GEES

The Bee Gees was a trio consisting of 3 siblings: older brother Barry (born in Manchester in 1946), and twins Maurice and Robin Gibb (born Isle Of Man in 1949). The brothers first performed in Manchester in 1955. Three years later, the Gibb family emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. Today, the group is regarded one of the most successful music acts of all-time.

40

LOVE YOU INSIDE OUT Bee Gees

This single remains the trio's final (to date) American #1 song. Its ascent affected the record books. The song, written by all three members,  was the trio’s sixth chart-topping single. With this recent climb, the group achieved 6 consecutive number ones; something only The Beatles had accomplished. This was the third #1 in a row from ‘Spirits Having Flown’, following the same feat lifted off ‘Saturday Night Fever’. The Bee Gees were the only act to score 3 #1 songs from 2 successive albums until Whitney Houston did so in the 1980s.

39

AN EVERLASTING LOVE Andy Gibb

A Top 10 single in America, Britain and Canada, this was written and co-produced by Barry.

38

LIFE STORY Barbra Streisand

Another standout track from the ‘Guilty’ album, this song was also the B-side for the Top 10 hit duet “Guilty”.

37

TIME IS TIME Andy Gibb

Barry co-wrote this song with Andy. It was released in 1980 and was included on the ‘Andy Gibb’s Greatest Hits’ compilation album.

36

HIDEAWAY Barbra Streisand

Barry contributed to the writing of all of the tracks on ‘Guilty Pleasures’, as he had on the original ‘Guilty’ project. This underrated track was penned with his son Ashley Gibb.

35

YOU WIN AGAIN Bee Gees

This song, composed by the trio, led to a revival of interest from the public for new Bee Gees music in 1987. The disc topped the UK chart, the first to do so in eight years. It also reached #1 in Europe.

34

EMOTION Samantha Sang

Samantha Sang scored the first hit version of this song in 1977. She was born in Melbourne, Australia. Barry and Robin wrote the ballad which Sang took to #3 in America, #11 in Britain and #2 in Australia. A remake by Destiny’s Child in 2001 peaked at #10 in the U.S.A. , #3 in the UK, #10 in Europe, #11 in Canada and #17 in Australia.

33

EATEN ALIVE Diana Ross

The result of a songwriting collaboration between Barry and Maurice with Michael Jackson. The former co-produced the title track from Ross’ 1985 album with Jackson, Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson.

32

WARM RIDE Graham Bonnet

Barry, Robin and Maurice wrote this song that was recorded by The Bee Gees, Andy Gibb and Rare Earth. Around the same time, Graham Bonnet’s 1978 remake peaked at #2 in Australia.

31

I STARTED A JOKE Bee Gees

This 1968 single peaked at #6 in America and topped the charts in Canada, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. All 3 members of the trio co-wrote the hit also included on that year's album 'Idea'.
