WRITTEN BY THE

BEE GEES

The Bee Gees was a trio consisting of 3 siblings: older brother Barry (born in Manchester in 1946), and twins Maurice and Robin Gibb (born Isle Of Man in 1949). The brothers first performed in Manchester in 1955. Three years later, the Gibb family emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. Today, the group is regarded one of the most successful music acts of all-time.

60

HE’S A LIAR Bee Gees

Released in 1981,  this single just scraped into the US Top 30, a casualty of the backlash directed towards the trio after the disco boom faded.

59

SAVED BY THE BELL Robin Gibb

Robin quit The Bee Gees in 1969, leaving the remaining two brothers to continue working as a duo. Barry and Maurice released ‘Cucumber Castle’, while Robin’s solo debut album ‘Robin’s Reign’ was issued in 1970. Prior to its release, Robin reached #2 in the UK with this lead single. The disc also made the Top 10 in Australia, Europe and New Zealand.

58

FIRST OF MAY Bee Gees

Recording the ‘Odessa’ album led to Robin briefly quitting the trio. This single was released in 1969. Robin had wanted the song “Lamplight” which featured him on lead vocals to be released as a single. Robert Stigwood insisted it should be “First Of May” instead. The decision prompted Robin’s departure. He re-joined Barry and Maurice in 1970.

57

CRIME OF PASSION Diana Ross

One of the underrated tracks on Ross’ ‘Eaten Alive’ LP.

56

COME ON OVER Olivia Newton-John

Written by Barry and Robin, Newton-John’s version only reached #23 Pop in America, but it peaked at #5 Country and #1 on the Easy Listening Chart in 1976. The original version, by the Bee Gees, was included on the ‘Main Course’ album.

55

MAKE IT LIKE A MEMORY Barbra Streisand

This, the closing track on ‘Guilty’, runs for 7.5 minutes.

54

WORLD Bee Gees

In 1968, this single made the Top 10 in Britain, Australia, various European countries and New Zealand. It was written by The Bee Gees who co-produced it with Robert Stigwood.

53

SECRET LOVE Bee Gees

Reminiscent of the Diana Ross smash “Chain Reaction”, this lead single from the 1991 album ‘High Civilization’ peaked at #5 in the UK and #3 in Europe. The 3 brothers wrote and produced the hit.

52

MY WORLD Bee Gees

Released as a single in 1972, this was a Top 20 hit in America, Britain and Canada and across Europe.

51

GOLDEN DAWN Barbra Streisand

Barry penned this album track on ‘Guilty Pleasures’ with his sons Ashley and Stephen Gibb.
