Simply Red's debut single was "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)", issued in 1985. It was included on the band's first album 'Picture Book'. The single broke the group around the world, charting in Britain, America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Just 3 years earlier, the original version of the song was released by The Valentine Brothers. The duo consisted of siblings John and Billy. Originating from Ohio, they recorded their version for the Bridge label. It was their 1st single to chart too, reaching #41 on the US R&B Chart. They scored 2 more entries, the final one being "Lonely Nights" in 1984.
