ABBATHE 40 MOST IMPORTANT SONGS

35 SUMMER NIGHT CITY  Writers: Benny Andersson / Bjorn Ulvaeus

All 4 members contributed vocals to the dance track "Summer Night City". ABBA bravely tried an array of musical styles, including rock, funk and country. Here, ABBA deliver their version of the disco genre that was still dominating the charts when the track was issued as a single in September 1978. Its true magic can best be experienced in the full length version with the intro that was sliced off the single release. Benny & Bjorn remained dissatisfied with the song, which explains its omission from the 'Voulez Vous' album, despite it being the first song completed during the recording sessions. As for the public, they loved ABBA's brand of disco.
