ABBATHE 40 MOST IMPORTANT SONGS

8 RING RING

Writers: Benny Andersson / Bjorn Ulvaeus / Stig Anderson/ Neil Sedaka/ Phil Cody

The group wasn't referred to as ABBA yet, but all 4 members received credit as performers. Recording "Ring Ring" commenced early January 1973. ABBA's manager Stig asked American songwriters Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody to work on the lyrics. It was submitted as a contender for the Eurovision Song Contest a year before ABBA won with "Waterloo". In the Swedish finals, "Ring Ring" finished in 3rd place.
Despite not making it to Eurovision, the song was issued as a single. Re-recorded in English, the disc peaked at #2 in Sweden. It was released in the UK but failed to chart. It did, however, become ABBA's first Australian chart entry in November 1973. The single only charted for 2 weeks and climbed no higher than #92, but it proves the group would find a global audience- even  before its Eurovision triumph. Re-released in 1975, the song reached #7 and charted for 26 weeks in Australia.
