💥63 Good Times

Chic

Good Times bw A Warm Summer Night by Chic US 7-inch single.pngThe group Chic had already enjoyed a string of hits that included dancefloor staples “Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)”, “Everybody Dance” and the global smash “Le Freak”. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were the pivotal members, ably supported by the Chic team of musicians that included Tony Thompson, Alfa Anderson, Luther Vandross, Norma Jean Wright and Fonzi Thornton. Although often referred to as a disco group, Chic created its own brand of funk. “Good Times”, the act’s second US #1 single, consolidated the Rodgers – Edwards golden touch. They applied that gift to Sister Sledge, creating “He’s The Greatest Dancer”, “Thinking Of You” and “We Are Family”. In the 1980s, the two would write / produce hits for acts as diverse as Diana Ross, Duran Duran, Madonna, INXS, David Bowie and Bryan Ferry. “Good Times” also led music down a new direction. The Sugarhill Gang sampled the track for “Rapper’s Delight”. Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” was based on the Chic hit. Over subsequent decades, countless songs have sampled Chic tracks. Edwards died while on tour in 1996. Rodgers continues to perform, adding his considerable experience to recent collaborations such as “Get Lucky” (Daft Punk), “One More” (S.G. Lewis) and “Who’s Hurting Who” (Jack Savoretti).
