#950-946 20 -a -day special fast track...
#950 CAUGHT OUT THERE Kelis
Kelis broke through with the controversial single "Caught Out There" in 1999. It was a preview of her debut album 'Kaleidoscope'. Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo, from the duo The Neptunes, both wrote and produced this for the hip hop performer from Harlem.
#949 HEADING FOR THE LIGHT Traveling Wilburys
The Traveling Wilburys was a super group project consisting of 5 very well respected and successful musicians: Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne (from Electric Light Orchestra), Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and George Harrison. The rock music legends shared songwriting credit on all of the tracks featured on their debut album 'Volume 1', issued in 1988. Harrison & Lynne produced the tracks, including "Heading for the Light". All 5 shared lead vocals on the LP. Sadly, Orbison died shortly after the album came out.
#948 UNTIL THE NIGHT Billy Joel
When Billy Joel delivered '52nd Street' in 1978, the LP was the follow-up to his best album up to that point, 'The Stranger'. The new album saw Joel offer up songs in a range of styles, including rock and jazz. The epic "Until the Night", penned by the singer/ songwriter, is the lengthiest track on the LP. Phil Ramone produced the cut.
#952 I SEND A MESSAGE Inxs
'The Swing' found Australian group INXS at their peak. They were delivering their best singles and had even cracked the US market. "I Send a Message" was from that LP and was written by band members Andrew Farris and Michael Hutchence. The single peaked at #3 in Australia in 1984. It was produced by Nick Launay.
#951 TRAGEDY Bee Gees
The Gibb brothers had an unenviable task ahead when they set to work on a follow-up to their mammoth hit 'Saturday Night Fever'. While other artists had contributed tracks for the soundtrack, it was the Bee Gees' songs that had attracted the bulk of the public's attention. Some of the tracks performed by others had been co-written by the brothers. "Tragedy" is over the top, despite dealing with heartbreak. Perhaps it reflects the daunting task the Gibb siblings had, writing a new album. The track, written by all 3 brothers, proved to be a success; reaching #1 in both the UK & USA. in 1979. They co-produced the track with Karl Richardson and Albhy Galuten. "Tragedy" ended up just 1 of 3 American #1 singles lifted off the 'Spirits Having Flown' LP.
