#1005 CONTROL MYSELF LL Cool J featuring Jennifer Lopez
LL Cool J was one of the pioneers of rap, punching out a profile for the genre despite the early resistance it received from mainstream audiences. Born James Todd Smith in Queens, New York, he has outlasted many of the early rappers and carved out an enduring career where others failed after a brief spell in the spotlight. He notched up several key rap classics, including "Mama Said Knock You Out", "I Need Love", "Goin' Back to Cali" and "Around the Way Girl". His stage name LL Cool J stands for 'Ladies Love Cool James'.
"Control Myself" was issued as the first single off his 2006 'Todd Smith' album. The recording features a sample of "Looking for the Perfect Beat", a 1982 song by Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force. The label therefore credits as songwriters on the Cool J track as: the rapper himself, Jermaine Dupri (who produced the track), James Phillips, Ryan Toby, Jennifer Lopez, John Miller, Bambaataa, Arthur Baker and John Robie.
On the track, Cool J shares lead vocals with Lopez. The single made the Top 10 on both the UK and US charts.
