#985-981 20 -a -day special fast track...

#985 I WILL FOLLOW HIM Little Peggy March
When her song "I Will Follow Him" hit #1 in the US, Little Peggy March was a mere 15 years of age; thus becoming at that time the youngest performer to ever reach the top. Born Margaret Battavio in 1948, the youngster had won various talent contests leading up to the then 14 year old being signed up to RCA in 1962. Her first single flopped, but its follow-up was a worldwide smash. The hit was written by Arthur Altman, Norman Gimbel, J. W. Stole and Del Roma. Gimbel went on to create unforgettable theme songs for TV series such as "Happy Days", "Laverne & Shirley", "The Love Boat" and  "Wonder Woman". He won an Oscar for co-writing "It Goes Like It Goes" for the film 'Norma Rae', which starred Sally Field.
In the meantime, March tried to find another comparable hit song, recording into the early 70s before migrating to Germany with her husband. She returned to the US in the subsequent decade.

#984 LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER Captain & Tennille
In 1972 married couple Captain & Tennille scored a global hit with "Love Will Keep Us Together". It had been written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. They were regular songwriting partners and the former recorded his own version of it for his 'Sedaka's Back' LP that same year.
The Captain & Tennille are still happily married and prefer to enjoy home life in Nevada to performing on the road. It's a case of a song's title being spot on!

#983 THE WAY YOU ARE TONIGHT Carl Riseley
Carl Riseley first came to the Australian public's notice in Season 5 of "Australian Idol". That debut in 2007 changed the young performer from a trumpet player in the Australian navy to a pop star. He came third on the TV talent show and in 2008 released his first album of covers on the Mercury label. The record reached #5 on the charts.
The following year saw him release a new set of songs for 'The Stillest Hour'. One of the standout tracks on this album was "The Way You Are Tonight". Its understated vocals and Riseley's subtle articulation add an emotional depth to Don Walker's lyrics. A former member of legendary Australian rock band Cold Chisel, Walker had previously recorded the song for his 'Cutting Back' album in 2006.

#982 YOU'RE ALL I NEED TO GET BY Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
Some of the best duets were consistently recorded by Motown's Marvin Gaye with Tammi Terrell. He would team up with other females, but the chemistry between these 2 stars was both rare and precious. The magic pairing added sincerity to the lyrics of "You're All I Need To Get By". Penned by the husband and wife team of Nicholas Ashford & Valerie Simpson., their enduring relationship no doubt added to the heartfelt devotion spinning out of the record's grooves.
Released as a single in 1968, the duet reached the Top 10 on both the Pop & R&B charts in the USA. It remains a standout recording from the Motown label.

#981 TI AMO Umberto Tozzi
Umberto Tozzi is a major pop star in his native Italy. Born in 1952, he began singing at an early age.  At 16, he joined the group Off Sound before branching out alone. He released his solo debut LP in 1976. A year later he issued his 'Ti Amo' album. Its title track was a ballad  Tozzi co-wrote with Giancarlo Bigazzi that managed to not only achieve success in his homeland and Latin American territories, but crossed over to English-speaking territories. In Australia, a country with many Italian emigrants, the single went gold and charted.
Following her worldwide hit "Gloria", also written by Tozzi, Laura Branigan recorded a cover of "Ti Amo". In 1984, her remake (translated into English) peaked at #2 in Australia, an improvement on the original's chart performance.
