#920 THIS TIME Dragon
"This Time" was the first single from Dragon to chart in Australia. While originating in New Zealand, the band was by now based in its neighbouring country. The breakthrough song was written by members of the group at the time: brothers Todd & Marc Hunter, Robert Taylor, Paul Hewson and Neil Storey. #919 THE AIR THAT I BREATHE K.D. Lang
One of rock's most beautiful ballads is "The Air That I Breathe", penned by songwriters Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood. The former recorded the original version for his 1973 album, 'It Never Rains in Southern California'. A year later, UK group The Hollies turned the composition into a major worldwide hit. Other remakes followed soon after.
K.D. Lang's cover version was for her 1997 'Drag' album. She strips the song back to basics, with the focus clearly on the melancholic lyrics. Lang, as both singer and co-producer, tackles the song with measured vocals and subtle instrumentation. A beautiful gradual build up as we progress through the verses leads us to a crescendo in the chorus.

#918 BLACK IS BLACK La Belle Epoque
The all-female trio La Belle Epoque hailed from Paris, France. They scored a hit in the US with "Miss Broadway", but in other territories, their one hit was "Black is Black". In Australia, the disc reached #1 in 1977. The single is sometimes referred to as "Disco Sound/ Black is Black". It was a cover of the Los Bravos hit from 1966. The song was composed by Michelle Grainger, Tony Hayes and Steve Wadey.

Crowded House's second LP 'Temple of Low Men' opens with the track "I Feel Possessed". It's a well crafted song penned by lead singer Neil Finn. His protagonist is under the spell of a woman. Mitchell Froome produced the track, as he did the other songs on the 1988 album. 

#916 UP ON THE ROOF The Drifters
Following the departure of Ben E. King, The Drifters replaced their lead vocalist with Rudy Lewis in 1961. "Up on the Roof" features the latter up front of the seminal R&B group. The single was issued in 1962 on the highly pivotal soul label Atlantic. Its sales returned The Drifters to the Top 5 in the US. Married couple Carole King & Gerry Goffin wrote the song.
