American singer/ songwriter Tracy Chapman was born in 1964. As a child, she began to master the guitar and started writing songs. Developing her own folk/ rock style, Chapman was eventually discovered. This led to a record deal.
In 1988, a self-titled debut LP was unleashed. "Fast Car", its 1st single, went Top 10 in America, Britain, Canada and Australia. 'Tracy Chapman' was a hit album and collected 4 Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist for the performer. Chapman has since released other albums and still performs to this day.
