Rock, country, pop, adult contemporary, new wave and Latin are genres that Linda Ronstadt has tackled, demonstrating her versatility and range as an interpreter.
Born in 1946, the American performer was a university student at the time she became a founding member of The Stone Poneys. Beginning with folk / rock roots, Ronstadt recorded 3 albums with the band. By 1968, she was ready to launch her solo career.
Her first solo LPs emphasized her country music credentials. The session musicians on her 1971 eponymous 3rd album included future members of The Eagles. The following year, 'Heart Like A Wheel' became her 1st US #1 albun and featured her #1 hit cover of "You're No Good".
'Simple Dreams', issued in 1977, was a worldwide smash. Ronstadt dabbled in new wave on 'Mad Love' in 1980. Her next phase spawned albums of pop standards in the mid-1980s. Subsequent releases included albums devoted to Mexican and Spanish tracks, pop and a return to her country roots.
Ronstadt has collaborated with the likes of Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Aaron Neville, James Taylor, Nelson Riddle, James Ingram and Bette Midler.
